Valparai is located Near by area of Anamalai Tiger Reserve. This Sanctuary is situated at an altitude of 1,400 meters in the Western Ghats near Pollachi (about 90 kms. from Coimbatore) with many best spots and tourist destinations. The area of the sanctuary is 958 sq. kms. Various kinds of fauna like elephant, gaur, tiger, panther, sloth bear, deer, wild bear, wild dog, porcupine, flying squirrel, jackal, pangolin, civet cat and birds like rocket-tailed drongo, re-whiskered bulbul, black headed oriole, tree pie, spotted dove, green pigeon, etc. are found on the best spots. The Amaravathy reservoir in the Anamalais has a large number of crocodiles. There are also many places of scenic beauty such as Karainshola, Anaikunthi shola, grass hills, water falls, groves, teak forests, estates, dams and reservoirs. Thalanar Vally is Located Enroute to Valparai, Near by Kavarkal Estate. from here we can see Sholayar dam and Velonie valley view.
The second deepest dam of Asia is located here and that is Sholayar Dam, situated at a distance of 20 Kms. from Valparai. An active tourist spot found always busy. A beautiful place to visit. This Dam’s height is 160 feet. 2 hydro electric power plant is there.
At Kurangumudi Near by Bharthidasan Nagar we can see the Sholayar Dam. We can walk there by a old road. Carefull with slipery Sand and Don’t try to enter in to the Dam water.
Koozhangal River (No Entry)
One of the ideal spots for bathing is Koozhangal river. Clear and Chill water containing caloric and its continual motion. In this river right side area is the only safty place for bathing.Respect Warinig Boards Always.
Chinnakalar is a geographically important place. It is the second highest rain fall area in India. Always found wet and misty. A greenish dense forest with tall and majestic trees all along the road to Chinnakalar .A route of pleasure to enjoyment.
Lower Nirar Dam
Nirar dam is built for irrigation and Hydro electricity production. Dam is situated in a wonderful location covered by a dense forest.
Nature’s one of the most beautiful view point near by Anaimudi and it is Nallamudi Poonjolai. From here, we can see TRIBALS’ hut and Idly River and falls
The most important tunnel that diverts the water from Chinnakallar Dam to Sholayar dam throughout the year is Vellamalai Tunnel. This is a a 6 km. tunnel. Don’t try to bath here because it’s very Dangerous.

Kadamparai Dam is scenically located in the dense forest areas of the Anamalai Hills between Attakatti and Iyerpadi village nice place to visit.
